European Equity Fund

Description:

The European Equity Fund is an actively managed equity portfolio with a long term investment horizon.

Our aim is to invest in European companies that are trading below their intrinsic value. Our investment process seeks to invest in companies that exhibit a combination of low financial risk, low operational risk and low valuation risk.

We believe that if we can invest in companies that possesses these characteristics then we can reduce the risk of a permanent loss of capital and enhance our chances of outperforming our benchmark over the long term.

Investment Objective:

The investment objective of the Fund is to outperform the MSCI Europe index over the long term.

Rowan Smith

Rowan Smith joined Setanta in 1998 and has 13 years experience in the asset management industry.  Rowan is responsible for the Global Healthcare sector and has managed other global sector portfolios in the past.  Rowan co-manages Focus 15, the European fund and the EAFE fund.  He gained his BA in Accounting from the National College of Ireland in 1998 and completed the professional examinations of the Institute of Investment Management and Research in 2001.

Fergal Sarsfield

Fergal Sarsfield,CFA joined Setanta in 2007 and has 11 years experience in the asset management industry. Fergal is responsible for the Global Technology sector and in addition to co-managing the European Equity Fund he also co-manages the EAFE Equity Fund. He spent 5 years working in KBC Asset Management mainly as an Asian Equity analyst before joining Setanta Asset Management in 2007.   He has a BBS and is a CFA Charterholder.

David Byrne, CFA joined Setanta in 2007 and has 3 years experience in the asset management industry.  In addition to managing the Global Consumer Discretionary sector, David also co-manages the European and EAFE equity funds.  He has a BA in Economics and Geography from University College Dublin and an MSc in Finance from Leeds Metropolitan University.

The Fund returns stated (in Euro) are based on the movements in the unit prices of a representative account, based on mid to mid prices, and are gross of management fees. The performance will be reduced by the impact of management fees paid, the amount of which varies.  

The European Equity Fund is managed by Setanta Asset Management Limited and is a representative account of the European Equity strategy.   The Fund is currently available in Ireland via a unit-linked offering of Canada Life Assurance (Ireland) Limited.  For this life assurance product, investors should refer to the relevant policy conditions. The strategy is also available on a segregated basis.
